The research interests of Dr. Ghugre broadly span in-beam nuclear structure studies, using gamma-ray spectroscopy, along with the associated developments for instrumentation and data analysis methodologies. His nuclei of interest have been particularly the spherical ones, around the shell closures. Beyond the experimental endeavors, he has been an active practitioner of large basis shell model calculations, using the results to interpret the excitation schemes of the nuclei. He has been proactive in the development of frameworks for the use of digital signal processing algorithms in the domain of gamma-ray spectroscopy. His tools have facilitated the understanding of digitizer operations in the context of gamma spectroscopy and have helped transitioning from the analog pulse processing techniques conventionally practiced in the country. Dr. Ghugre has been instrumental in developing software frameworks for analysis of gamma-/ X-ray spectra and the resulting methodologies have translated into augmenting the accuracy of the experimental numbers. His developmental acumen has also extended to provisioning tools for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and he has led several workshops and training sessions towards fostering their usage in institutions across the country
