Prof. Amlan Pal has joined the Kolkata Centre of UGC-DAE CSR as a DAE Raja Ramanna Chair (DAE-RRC) in December 2025
The Chair is awarded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, to utilize the services of active retired scientists, engineers, and technologists, who have been involved in high-quality research in their specialized disciplines and who, after retirement, are keen to pursue R&D on the contemporary topics as identified by the DAE.
Prof. Pal is one of the leading scientists to have spearheaded the initiation of research on devices and device physics in the country. Prof. Pal's work bridges the gap between basic research and optoelectronic applications. His research focuses on the fabrication and characterization of different devices, such as resistive switching, memory, synaptic devices for neuromorphic computing, organic electronics, photovoltaic solar cells, photodetectors, and light-emitting diodes based on organic semiconductors, halide perovskites, conjugated polymers, and inorganic quantum dots. Prof. Pal has mentored and continues to mentor young researchers in this fascinating field. He has guided 32 students for their Ph.D.’s. He is a Fellow of all three science academies of India, as well as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
